Signs of Spring & New Paintings

Spring is Comingherons mating

My daffodils and tulips are peeking through the ground in defiance of the snow that fell last week and the herons are back in Peninsula. The Bath Road Heronry is a local favorite of bird watchers and photographers. From mid-February through June, great blue herons build over 140 nests and raise their young. I have aheron cutout in abstractdded a Heron Gallery to the portfolio.

Trilogy Wine Painting
TrilogyPainting2

Using Painter and the Skip Allen’s Watercolor brushes, I painted in the background of my new Trilogy painting. TrilogyPainting1I also have started sketching the wine bottle trying to decide what I want to do with it before I add it to the painting and I have been playing with how I will build the painting on the watercolor background and what other pieces I will add.  I am happy with the background. I love the soft look with the grape vines and hills in the background.

Grandbabies Collage Portrait

Work has not given me as much painting time, but I have changed a few sketches and started on their Grandbabies_0010_011granddaughter. I am still not sure where it is going but the journey is still interesting. At this time the sketches  are just a rough approximation of the subjects. I will finish the sketches on the right side this week and add one more on the left.

Take time to enjoy the beauty around you. Safe journeys, I’ll see you next week.

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am a third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
