Wallace

Wallace

I went to a watercolor workshop in the summer of 2006 and met Wallace while painting in Camden Harbor. I was there to paint but had my camera with me too. Camden Harbor has to be the dog walking capital of the world. I had never seen so many different breeds of dogs in one place and then Wallace walked by. He was the first golden doodle I had seen and I fell in love with him instantly. Wallace had a personality to go with his name. He was full of curiosity and play and loved posing. Having had both goldens and a poodle, he was intriguing.

I started taking photos of Wallace in every imaginable pose. He was delightful. This photographic High Key image is a digital enhancement that consists primarily of light tones, without dark shadows, which fit him well as he is a white doodle.

First Kiss

In January of the next year, I got my golden doodle, Brandy. We visited Wallace the following summer. Brandy is very shy and Wallace was his excitable vivacious self. After Brandy tried to hide under the car as he roared in delight upon seeing her, we tried meeting in the hotel room. This was their first nose to nose meeting.

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am a third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
